Northern Aces Tennis Group
Info: Northern Aces Tennis Group
The aims of the Group as set out in the Constitution are to "To provide the means for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) persons to play tennis". We hope, however, that we do much more than that, and that people can come along to play and improve their tennis in a friendly, relaxed and sociable atmosphere.
The Group runs weekly tennis sessions at Sportcity, provides professional coaching and organises both internal and international tennis tournaments. Group members also frequently travel elsewhere in the UK, as well as overseas, to compete in International GLBT tournaments.
To find out more about us, please spend a little time looking at our website. If you would like to come down to play at one of the regular weekly sessions or if you would like any further information about the group please contact us via our form or by mobile on 07929 917361.
Northern Aces currently meets to play tennis at the Manchester Tennis Centre, Sportcity every Saturday afternoon. The sessions usually take place between 2 and 5pm and the Group usually manages to book between 3 and 4 courts each week. Additional sessions may be arranged on Sundays.
However, this is subject to change and members are requested to check the weekly information email for confirmation of court times. Members can also ring the Group mobile phone (07929 917361), which has a recorded message detailing playing times each week.
Over the summer months, some courts are booked outside, but generally the sessions are held indoors. Most of the play is doubles, which takes priority; singles is played when spare court capacity is available. Northern Aces provides tennis balls, which are used only for two sessions and then replaced with new balls. All used balls are donated to Sportcity for their use.
Northern Aces request that any new members must meet the minimum play criteria detailed below:
- Ability to serve over arm and get the ball in (most times !!!)
- Knowledge and understanding of the rules of the game and how to score
- Ability to hold a simple rally
